Can't you get it running and be underneath of it and use touch and the screwdriver in the ear to try and find the noise? That's how I determine wheel bearing or any whine noise I get on mine or at work.

Yeah i run it up to temp then put it in park handbrake on crawl under it..

its kind of vibrates not really loud but like BRRRRRRRRRR i push on the transfer box to the passenger side and it goes... but i cant see anything touching the box anywhere..

Thanks for all the replies!

is it an actual vibration you can feel or more of a rattling noise? a tinny rattle or more heavy sounding?
Is there clearance where the 2 exhaust pipes pass over the gearbox cross member?

Hi thanks for replys it's quiet loud but disappears as soon as you put some Revs on... I'm going to swap out the old engine mounts for a new pair and see if that helps...

Hello all your right people should make sure they put the fix at the end of a thread.

Ok so after everything I did, swapping the flax plate, drive shafts, wheels, viscous fan and countless other parts It turned out to be the skin of the roof had come away from the body work and was vibrating at low speeds! I only found this out when, Id totally had enough of the p38 and having a cup of tea break and thinking what to try next I put the cup on the roof above the drivers seat and it just stopped vibrating!! I lifted it off and it started again. Throwing the cup to one side and pressing on the roof with my hands I could feel that the roof had come "unstuck" from the body shell! It was about 8pm when all this happened and by 10pm that night id stripped the roof lining and using some cardboard and rtv paste wedged and filled the gap between the roof skin and the body rail. After this it never did it ever again! Sad as it may sound I have never been so pleased to find a fix in my life! It's just as shame I spent all that time and effort doing everything else only to find it was a simple fix like that. The vibration, although coming from the roof was traveling around the body shell and sounding like it was coming from below my feet, hense the flex plate and drive shafts etc. If you have this vibration sit in the drivers seat and get someone to push on the roof in as many places as they can reach before doing anything else!

I hope this helps someone.

Ok so been chasing a vibration down for a while now and I know there are loads of posts on this but no one ever gets back about it blar blar blar....

So Ive checked engine mounts and replaced gear box mounts the vibration starts when the cars warm and on tick over... Ok but if i put a trolly jack under the engine and lift it slightly and the vibe went what am i missing here is it actually a mount that's gone?

!) So just because you have changed some bits, don't assume that bits done
Was it a good / genuine part?
Did you fit it correctly?
2) Objects vibrate in objects so just because you cant see it does not mean its not vibrating inside
3) As Datatek said perhaps put tick over speed up or down
If its near or touching the engine it could vibrate....sounds like a mount? possibly exhaust?

Well that's a new one! Roof coming off!

Just goes to show, you're never too old or clever to learn something new!!!
In the words of sherlock, "How often have I said to you that when you have eliminated the impossible, whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth?"

Seriously I kid thee all not! It was the bloody roof skinning. Next time you have the roof lining out have a look above the drivers seat and you'll see the area I mean. I'll see if I have an image of it.
