It's a third generation r/f receiver for the key fob. The older versions pick up spurious signals which re alarm the car and relock the doors. This can lead to flat batteries and burnt out door lock motors. You didn't say you were a Gaylander owning hairdresser.

Dont disconnect the battery for any length of time. I used to and it fecked up the becm. I use a maintenance charger now with the battery connected. I use a solar charger on my car in Fuerteventura. Mind you its a 96 Clio with 260k klms on the clock
