can any 1 help ive just gota another range p38 p reg.4.6ltr on the way home on motorway doing between 70-80mph the computor went mad over an over saying transfer over heating,,refer to manual.pulled into services an allowed it to cool down. i done this all the way home an got home eventually..also steering has a mind ov its own it wonders now an again an u have to fight it!!any ideas??would a diagnostic be a good idea?

i would change the oil in the transfer case, 2 litres of defron to refill, less than a tenner and 20 mins job!

the steering damper, the shock absorber on the front suspension linkages, is prolly gone. bout 40 quid and 20 mins work!

What tyres are on the front, the P38 is very particular about its front tyres, check under tramlining posts for different opinions but Pirelli Scorpions are a fairly universal cure for wanderlust.

will change oil ..ive checked it this morning an it was over full about a finger length over its marker!!..i can see oil around the steering damper so u may be right i will change that..it has 19" l322 range wheels on it!thanx rob

also it has the manaul pump up system ie eas has been unplugged for some reason..it say on dash 30mph max..can i get this removed??cheers rob

we need to establish if the gear box or transfer box has/is over heating???

the gearbox oil needs to be checked whilst running!!! thats the dipstick near the bulkhead in the engine bay.

the transfer case/box oil is guaged by filling till it dribbles out of the filler hole, for this you will need to get under the car and undo the plug! obviously with car not running!!!

you can reset the eas, it wont cost the earth to buy the eas cable and download the software, plug it in as it should be and clear the faults. i would suspect the valve block has gone OR its been converted to coil springs!!!:D:D:D:D

ive checked oil an dipstick is about a finger length over full.i need to sort it asap as i need to go up to rotherham at the end ov the month,im in birmingham!!

thats the gearbox oil you have checked, not the transfer box oil. they are two seperate units and each have thier own oil. the GEAR box oil should be checked while engine is running and in neutral!

if the message was transfer overheat then checking the dipstick wont do anything.

if you need to get this sorted asap then understand that THE GEAR BOX AND TRANSFER BOX ARE SEPERATE PARTS OF THE TRANSMISSION SYSTEM. YOU NEED TO CLARFY THE PROBLEM AND THEN TAKE THE ACTION I HAVE STATED!!!!

No i havnt sorted it yet.had a look scratched my head. An come from under it.its all new to me.but i think i understand which one is the transfer box!just gotta find drain an filler points!!cheers rob..

What tyres are on the front?
As above the brand of tyres has a big difference on the directional stability with these buses.
Also the wheel size has an impact, there are reported problems with bigger wheels, I'm sure the L322 wheels don't go on without spacers which again contribute to problems

changed oil in transfer..cant test it untill ive sorted steering problem out i think its the steering box..getting it 4 wheel tracked tomoz an see the outcome ov that...

changed transfer oil an gone up the motor way an the message says transfer over heating.the is vibration,an transfer is red hot!! im thinkin it is a replacement transfer box
