I HAVE A 2001 ANNIVERSARY RR. OVER THE PAST FEW WEEKS I REPLACED THE AIR COMPRESSOR. (OLD ONE ON FOR 15 YEARS AND F---- ) I HAVE NOTICED THE DRIVE SIDE FRONT IS NOT ALWAYS THE SAME HEIGHT AS THE OTHER 3 CORNERS (MAINLY, SOMETIMES THE DRIVERS SIDE FRONT/BACK SEEMS LOWER ,ONLY A LITTLE NOT MUCH) THE SUSPENSION ICON ON THE DASH SAYS ITS AT HEIGHT OK IN ANY SETTING BUT WHEN DRIVING ,ABOUT 30% OF THE TIME I JUST FEEL THE RIGHT FRONT IS JUST A LITTLE LOWER ...AGAIN WHEN I GET OUT AT FIRST GLANCE ALL LOOKS FINE BUT IF YOU MESSURE WHEEL ARCH TO WHEEL CENTRE THERE CAN BE ABOUT HALF TO THREE QUARTERS INCH DIFF.. I HAVE DONE THIS ON MANY DIFF PLACES INCASE MY DRIVE IS TO BLAME...ALSO I CAN FEEL A DEFINATE DIFF IN HOW IT DRIVES WHEN I FEEL ALL CORNERS AT UP AT THE SAME HEIGHT..I HAVE DONE 'ALL' THE AIR TESTSAND SHE DOES NOT LEAK AT ALL,OR DOES NOT SEEM TO ...IT WILL STAY AT THE SAME HEIGHT PARKED UP FOR 1-2 WEEKS.... MY QUESTION IS ...IS IT MOST LIKELY TO BE A HEIGHT SENSOR,CAN THEY BE RIGHT ONE MINUTE AND WRONG THE NEXT?? CAN THEY HAVE INTERMITENT FAULTS WHICH HAPPEN SEVERAL TIMES OVER SAY A HALF HOUR DRIVE ...SORRY IF THIS IS A SIMPLE QUESTION BUT I JUST DONT KNOW ...

I HAVE SOMEONE COMIMG OUT NEXT WEEK TO DO JUST THAT (HE SERIVCES MY CAR HAS DONE FOR 10 YEARS) HE THINKS IT MAY BE THAT BUT I THOUGHT I WOULD ASK AS I DID NOT THINK THE CORNER WOULD RISE LOWER 10-12 TIMES ON SHORT RUNS ..SO IF THE SUSPENSION NEEDS A RECALIBARTION IT MANY MEAN THIS RISING LOWERING CAN HAPPEN WHEN DRIVING ??

If the vehicle is constantly adjusting itself, it could mean a sensor is giving odd readings due to internal dirt on the wiper tracks giving false height readings....or the air bag in question is leaking and the ECU is trying to keep filling it up and then it goes down, so the Compressor keeps trying to keep it inflated....after a while the system will just give up and fault out, knacker the compressor in short order and sink you to the bump stops!!

The system is designed to alter the ride height based on speed - over 52/56mph for longer than 30 seconds etc....also when you brake and the weight transfers to the front, the system will re-adjust itself to equalise the pressure and compensate for this nose down moment.

Again, no need to shout :D

Saint.V8 .Thank you ,yes I know it will change height as you drive ,but its only the front drive side that does it ( above 60 it does as should) . Its probably that the height sensor is at fault just wondered if the was anything else to look for give its been checked by me(and others) for a leak and nothing found.as far as I know the height sensors have been on from new some 15 years ..Whilst the car has only done 70k from new I don't know the life of a sensor. Getting it recalibrated next week if now diff then new sensor....

Sensors seem to be a bit random. If you've had it hanging in the air then the track sometimes goes outside its normal range and picks up some dirt. Been up on a jack recently or 4 poster? You might get lucky and large movement might clear the track or it might make it worse.

Mine's a '95 with double the mileage of yours and still the sensors are OK. That's probably the kiss of death ...
