I talked my friend into buying a $1,000 2001 Range Rover with a bad 4hp24 auto transmission. We rebuilt the transmission and took the transfer case apart, but it looked good so we left it alone. A job offer came and I had to move states, but he was able to get it back together with another friends help (even though he has never worked on cars before) and drove it recently. Everything worked great except it seems like it's stuck in low gear (4 gear, 50mph at 5k rpm). It seems to shift through gears just fine though. He does have the shifter on the high side gate.
He was able to remove the gear selector motor off the TC and was able to rotate the shaft. He said when he rotated the shaft he was able to put it into neutral because the truck started to roll a little. He rotated it both fully counterclockwise and test drove it and fully clockwise and test drove it but in both cases it still seems to be in low. Is there a specific location the shaft needs to be in to be in high? I would expect load to be fully counterclockwise and high to be fully clockwise but maybe not.
