Hi everyone,

My car has just come back from the garage after being serviced and having a new battery. Problem is I am now unable to enter the security code on my stereo to get it working again. The garage said they entered a code supplied by Land Rover which wasn't correct (I assume stereo has been changed at some stage) I have the correct code and have read my handbook which says you have to wait an hour before re-entering the code if you enter the wrong one 3 times. It has now been a week and my stereo is still locked up and none of the buttons do anything! The display shows 4 dashes which are not flashing.

Can one of you experts please help me?

Thanks in advance, Sam.

Press and hold the BAND button, after a few secs it should come back up with code.
Are you sure the garage was using the Cats code and not the EKA code - it often happens with garages that are not really into LR products.
One other tip is to get the radio head unit out if the codes dont work, often the radio code is hand written on the unit if it has been retro fitted or been away for repair.

Thanks for that but I've tried holdind band button and nothing happens, it just seems frozen with the 4 dashes displayed, ant other ideas?

Hi Wills, my head unit just says "rds diversity" on it so I'm not sure. My car is '98 S reg. I've tried pressing and holding most of the buttons now with no success.

hmmm, you have the Clarion headunit then you have a smallish volume knob and the little code light below??

If so I think the advice to hold the band button above is right. From what I remember when I recently took my radio out to fit a car kit it said in the manual not to turn the radio off IF you enter the code incorrectly.

I cant remember exactly what the manual says but im going out this afternoon so when I come back in ill bring the manual and tell you what it says.

Ok, the manual basically says if the incorrect code is entered then the display will just continue to show that code. To enter the correct code hold the band button for 3 seconds and code in will appear and you can try the code again.

It says if you get the code wrong 3 times in a row then a 1 hour lockout will begin (it doesnt say what is displayed during the lockout). After the time is up you can try re-entering the code.

If it was me I would assume the flashing dashes mean the lockout is activated. I would go on drive round the country or something for an hour with the radio left on and then try holding the BAND button and re-entering the correct code.

Once the correct code is entered the radio almost pauses for like a second while it thinks about things and then allows you in to program the stations etc. I found this out when I had to remove my radio, entered the code after putting it back in and waiting for what seemed like an age after entering the code for the radio to actually work. In reality its only a second or two but it seemed alot longer :D

Thanks again for that Wills, I'm starting to think there is more to my radios problem now. I've tried your suggested solution but nothing has happend all that is displayed is ---- this doesn't flash or say anything else. My radio has been on for a week now (so assume no longer on lock out) and none of the buttons do anything even if held (except on/off button. Looks like a stop off at dealer in morning

sdb,

You could try removing and disconnecting the radio completely for a few hours. This will allow any information stored in its memory to be lost.

When you reconnect it, it should ask you for the radio code.

Good luck.

Sam
