Now before you all tell me that this subject has been covered (I have read similar threads) please bear with me. My symptoms don't seem to match other threads I've come across to date.

I'm 2 weeks into Range Rover P38 ownership and loving it, however my sat nav (it's a 2000 Vogue) has never worked. All I get is a slight flicker from the screen for a split second on startup then just black.

I removed the radio and felt around but the two plugs behind the screen appear to be connected, although there is a blue connector hanging loose behind the dash. Don't know what it's for (see pic).

In the boot, the Sat Nav is connected and has a CD with maps loaded (it's not the original disc). Both connectors are plugged in and there is a flashing red light on the sat nav unit.

The radio and steering wheel controls all work.

Finally, the sub woofer is connected but there's a connector near it which doesn't have anything plugged into it. It looks like a coax cable (?) But not sure what it's for.

Does anyone here know what might be the issue or advise as to what else to check? I'm not sure how to remove the sat nav screen or if it would help to do so.

I'm not really looking to use the sat nav but it would be nice to see it working instead of a blank black screen.

Many thanks

Hi, the blue conector is for the CD changer in boot and should be connected into the rear of the strereo, the co axial cable is for a car phone as is the spare conector by sub woofer, your sat nav problem sounds like a duff Nav disc driver in boot, the one opposite the woofer. The orange lights should both be solid and not flashing, I believe there is a chap on eBay who can repair them.

Thank you for the info, really useful. I will have a look on eBay and see what can be done. The autochanger cartridge is also missing, so perhaps that's why it's been disconnected. I couldn't see anywhere behind the radio to plug it in but will have another look when I can.

Being a 2000 Vogue, it might have an early or different navigation system to the "norm" Put some pictures up of the nav computer and the screen and lets see if we can work out what it is first of all.

Will do, but probably won't be until Friday now though. I'll try and get some pics of both units / part numbers.

Sorry just noticed the first picture, that is the "norm" when it comes to screens but it might have a Mk2 Navigation computer rather than a Mk3 which is a small but worthwhile improvement if you do have a fault. Often if the computer is dead you will get either a full white screen or a totally black screen as you are experiencing. Often with the white screen you get continuous load and eject of the disk from the computer. The screen is just a screen and is dumb, everything for it comes from the computer in the boot. Normally people leave the computer disconnected in the boot when its dead but this one appears semi functional. There are companies that can repair them, often its best to get in touch and discuss but after much messing with mine trying to get it repaired it might have been easier just to spend £200 on a good working unit and go from there. With the postage I'll probably be in for about that maybe a bit less with getting mine repaired. I had a company in Romania do it who made a reasonable job but sadly their P38 OS for the computer was corrupt so they innocently tried an L322 version and sent it back which does sort of work but not that great. They refunded me without any quibble which was very good of them. On balance I wish I had just bought a good working one and sold what I had as a none worker to the repair companies (often they will give a few quid for a dead one as they know they can fix it and turn a profit)

Long overdue I know but here is a pic of the seemingly broken Sat Nav unit in the boot of my P38. Anyone recognise it? It flashes orange and ejects the Sat Nav CD but the screen is still black. There is a flicker of white when you start the car. Radio and steering wheel controls work fine though.

Looks like that is HW 2.2 and is a Mk2, can we see a picture of the front of it? Look at the repair guide I wrote a couple of days ago, a bit further down the page. Contact Andy on there he will be able to help you with it.
