Hi I have been having a few problems with the existing standard radio (Alpine) in my 1999 p38 ,I am considering fitting a modern DAB radio and replacing the amp in the boot maybe a reversing camera and telephone connection ect .My question is has anyone found an interface that will allow the use of the steering wheel controls with a DAB radio or a radio that will work with the existing steering wheel controls?.

I'll have a look for the company I used when I replaced my stereo. I had to by a speaker line adapter to reduce output from the stereo. I didn't bother with the steering wheel controls as I didn't want to run into any technical issues as just having the newer system was just all I needed.
I'll do a search for you. ;)

Man... I did mine a while back and it was a whole saga. Had to make attenuators for the door amps, had to use a PAC adapter for the steering wheel controls. Had to add a bluetooth module for bluetooth audio and handsfree telephoning.... and a reverse camera for the wife. There's thread of mine over on rangerovers.net where the whole sordid take is laid out in excruciating detail.

There's a happy ending though. So hop over there and take a look. I'm told you don't need a link to find it so just go take a look and let me know what you think.

Thank you Mark .

I will thank you ,sounds like just what I need .

I’ve had a look and searched Darthdude but nothing under that name .
Here's the link to the thread...... I start about halfway through it and go through the whole 9 yards of Ray Ambler pi attenuators, the PAC Audio steering wheel control adapter, bluetooth adapter, reverse camera, diversity radio and finally got my Kenwood head unit working with the factory speakers, antenna, subwoofer and CD changer.

Good luck!

Sorry, not CD changer. I will need a Kenwood CD changer but the great news for me is that the Kenwood and stock Clarion stereos use identical cables between head unit and cd changer.

Actually... as you will see, it's marty_nz that I owe the success of the project to as he walks me through the entire process so that even someone with my level of knowledge in electronics ("Don't let the red and black ones touch!!") came away with a totally working, entirely reversible aftermarket head unit installation. I join the conversation at page 4, just in case the whiskey and soda make their presence felt early.

:D

Good luck!
