P38 remote reciever

we all know of the trouble a reciever can cause picking up and acting on signals it shouldnt so to be sure you got the up to date/latest reciever would be a good thing.
having recently looked at mine i couldn't find any part number on it or in it! so how can one tell what one is fitted?
i dont seem to have any trouble with it "waking up" but it would be nice to know i wont!

has anyone looked into having one specially built by a local electrical wizzard somewhere?
or is the newest offering from landrover good enough?

how to tell if its newest though?

Previous theads on this subject have covered this already. Apparantly the original part and the "you need this one" part look identical and neither have part numbers written on them. Bastid main stealers:

I suppose if you are sure the Becm isn't being woken up, then stay with what you have, rather than shelling out loads of money for something you may not need.

My RR seems ok too, in that I don't get suffer from flat battery syndrome, but I live out in the sticks, so no CCTV etc and not aware of any neighbours with wireless broadband. If I do start to suffer, then its off with the aerial to start with, before visiting LR to get wallet raped.

i have wireless b/b, there are also about 4 others my lappy picks up, and i have a wireless house alarm, my r/r is only 12 foot from the house as well but touch wood no troubles as yet, touch wood!

As far as I understand the newer version of the receiver has "notch" filters added to reject frequencies at either side of the band required.

Shame they didn't think of marking it as Rev.02. Everything else on a Rangie seems to have more numbers than the phonebook.

Why blame the dealers ? They dont make the parts,nor in some cases do they make much out of them,its LR and its bean counters that shaft everyone.
The way to tell if the car has YWY500170 fitted to it is to let it go to sleep with a multimeter linked into the battery lead.Asleep it should draw about 20-30mA,(unless you have other extras fitted,LPG ecu's often take 80-100mA)then use another fob on 433mhz near the car.If it suddenly jumps up to .8-.9A then its woken up.I use my Disco fob to do this,with the new receiver it seems that only P38 fobs will wake it.

I wasn't blaming the dealers as such, but as its them we have to go to for the parts they will always tend to get it in the neck.

A very good friend of mine worked in the main dealer parts dept until recently and was always astounded at the price of certain items. It was quite often the case though that genuine parts could be cheaper than pattern. Its always worth checking.
