I have a 99MY P38 DHSE in really nice condition and everything works as it should, just MOTed. My question really is - you guys have Discos so I am looking for an honest opinion about the TD5 and if you would recommend it to a fellow Land Rover enthusiast. My requirements are it must run on biodiesel and tow my single axle 20 odd foot caravan.
If I decide to go for a TD5 what should I look out for?
Thanks in advance
Bill

Search on here for Biodiesel and TD5 I think you will find more people say not to run it than those that do

Has the similar choice when i bought my TD5 ie P38 or disco in the end went for the Td5 as it is more versatile than the P38 and almost as comfortable

My oppinion is that the Disco 2 is more reliable than the P38 but it doesnt like anything else than pure diesel.... it will be not happy at all on bio... i dont say it doesnt run on it but in time u'll have all sosts of trouble

Thanks for the input chaps, all noted. I think I will likely stick with the P38 for the time being at least. Might just decide to sell it and buy a 300 tdi. P38 got damaged  in a shop car park yesterday so work to do to bring it back to the condition it was in yesterday morning. I hate careless these B*****ds. At least if I had an old banger I would not worry about scratches and dings caused buy other peoples carelessness and pig ignorance.
rant over!!!

i had a 300tdi disco auto and run it on part deisel part cooking oil mix and it ran well until someone drove into it and wrote it off. really good landy but now got td5 and love it alot more comfy to drive and quieter. if towing i would go for the manual box the auto is good but even with the torque converter it felt like it needed another gear at top end on motorways

I also had a 300TDi and it towed beautifully. I ran it on 100% home made biodiesel with no problem, they will run on most anything. Only reason I got rid of mine was on advice from my local indy that it was going to start costing to get it through the MOT. I do like the P38 but it is not the workhorse the Disco was although it does run on 100% bio.
Thinking about going back to an old banger 300TDi since some careless so and so scratched the drivers door and drove off with so much as an apology. What is the point of having a nice car when others show no respect and damage it without a second thought. If the old Disco got scratched I likely would not have noticed it.
Anyway, thanks for your input, slither22. Have you run the TD5 on bio or cooking oil?
