P38 or l322

You should be able to get a TDV8 on your budget. Almost petrol performance with diesel economy.

I prefer p38s but am well aware that they are now getting very old, I guess a good L322 has a chance of being more reliable in the short term - if you're gonna run it for years then strangely the pendulum swings back to the p38 - which I think will last longer.

On the styling front, whilst the P38 is old to my mind it still looks the part. The early 322's also look the business, but later models starting to take on the White Goods feel. LR have lost the plot on the new stuff.

I still think the P38 is the best looking Rangie ever (bar the classic three door) the proportions are just right. The L322 seems to be very colour dependant and they got too blingy towards the end but some of them look lovely. I am on record here as saying I like the look of the L405 when it came out - having seen a few in the flesh I've changed my plea to yuk!

Prob is the tdv8 on my budget will have very high miles and the turbo thing kinda puts me off. If I max my budget on one then the turbos fail I'll have to get the credit card out which I don't really want to do if I can help it. Would rather save some to one side for future repairs

It's a shame these never come up for sale at the right time. This for me is worth so much more than any L322.

That's the one mate. For me it looks awesome with a lovely colour combo interior ect but it is a lot of cash!

I've test driven the td6 which I really didn't like and the bmw 4.4 v8 which I thought worked well in the big beast!, but then I started to have a look at p38's and well the price diff could see me in a really nice example with quite a lot of change lol. Yes I know they are older and some say looking aged now but it's still a range rover and like some have pointed out most p38's I've looked at for sale have hardly any wear on the seats as opposed to the 2005 v8 l322 I test drove was quite badly worn almost worn through on the drivers bolster! ( didn't go to buy it but was close by for me to test drive it). Which ever model I go for I am going to get some diagnostics gear but can you still get it for p38's? If so what make is it ect?

I have a Faultmate MSV 2 Extreme, it will do things that the T4 LR kit will not

Sounds like an awesome bit of kit! Are these around a £1000 mark? And do they have there own screen ect or do you need to use them in conjunction with a laptop?

About £500 for VIN locked Faultmate for the P38 I think, has a built in screen but is better with the Laptop. Nanocom does a lot of the same, bigger screen with colour and no laptop facility. Cheaper than the Faultmate. Check out www.blackbox-solutions.com for current prices.

Looks-wise I like the early 90's Vogues best, then the 3-door, then the 38. I can't stick the 322 but strangely I'm ok with the 405 ..long as it's in black or white.

its as old as gods dog

what version software it running as it is prob not updatable due to age & taking cartridges if I remember but if you have the cartridge for your landy then it should be okish for basic functions, a bit like comparing a cine film to a blu-ray
