P38 no start!

Hi just wondering if anyone can help?I have just picked up a P38 diesel off a friend and it will not start.Battery all charged and turning over nicely.Got fuel all the way up to the diesel pump but nothing at the injectors.A chap in an older post had the same problem and it was resync key with the beam.Dont really want to buy a syncmate to find out that's not the problem has anyone got one to loan/rent in the southwest?

Hi Denzil , if you have ignition and turning over as you say ,then its absolutely got nothing to do with a re-sync , so you don't need a syncmate !!!! follow what tomcat says and also wammers there both excellent on diezels ,,, best of luck im no good with diesels but think that theres not much wrong there is there filters in line somewhere apart from the fuel pump ??? , regards mozz
 
I agree with the others, check glow plugs and crack an injector to see if you have fuel there.
It could also be the stop solenoid, have you checked the inertia switch in the drivers side panel below the A post?
 
Without teaching grandma how to suck eggs are you waiting for glowplugs to heat up and light to extinguish on dashboard before turning over, without that bit of heat sometimes you can crank all day long before she will fire up

Nothing to do with resyncing key to BECM. But if the BECM has lost sync with the ECM then it will turn over for ever and not start. No matter how good your glow plugs are.
 
Beat me to it. He was halfway there.

It is amazing how many people get befuddled by the mention of syncing this and that. Syncing of fob to BECM for door lock operation has nothing whatsoever to do with syncing BECM to ECM. If the security code in the BECM is not the same as the code stored in the ECM when ignition is switched on. Then the engine will never start. Because the BECM will not switch on the ECM, the stop solenoid will not be lifted, no start fuel will be set and fuel will not go to the injectors and the engine will turn over for ever without starting. There will be no message on dash to indicate this. It has nothing at all to do with engine disabled message, EKA code or Fob sync which are totally different and none related alarm and locking functions.
 
Diesel cranks even when it has lost sync. @martyuk rents out syncmates. There is a Nanocom in the SW but cannot remember who has it or if it has EDC unlock codes.

Yes, I do have Syncmates to rent for all versions of P38. And even better, I've just got back from work and am home for a couple of weeks before heading off again, so I can actually send one out Tuesday if required still.

Which is why I asked if you had fuel at the injector. If you do then the stop solenoid is opening.then we can go to the heater plugs, do they have power? If not check the Max I fuse in the heater relay. Dont jump the gun,ask the question then act on the advice be methodical .
