hi to everyone
i have just bought my rangy today its a 98 range rover hse 4.6
it has a sony single disc head unit fitted
i want to reconnect the refurbished original clarion head unit i have
after sorting out the speaker wiring at the rear of the head unit and reconnecting the sub and cd player at the rear of the car
i fired it up inputted the code and hey presto it sprang into life
the sound out of the speakers is very low,the subwoofer seems ok but i think that the speakers amps are not working
has anyone any idea where to start
any help will be apreciated
regards Mark

Front door cards off.
You'll probably find that the amps have been bypassed.
What you do from then depends on what you find.

thanks for the quick reply dogsbody
Are the doorcards easy to remove ?
hopefully i can find an idiot guide and maybe some pics on how to remove them
Does each one of the speakers have its own amp then ?
are they intergrated into the speakers or seperate ?
Mark

Four screws and plugs round the edge and one in the middle.
One screw hidden behind the plastic triangle on top of the door that houses the tweeter.
Two more under the arm rest and one in the handle recess.
Be careful pulling the triangle off they can crack.
Then see what the previous owner has left you.

Hi again
Removed the door card without breaking anything
Thanks again dogsbody
The wiring to the door amp has been butchered
With what looks like a capacitor wired in
Is there any way of testing the amps or just replace with known worker
Are they wired in series
I.e if one don't work
None of them will ?
Like to get it back to original condition
Mark

The cap would have been fitted as a basic crossover.

To start with can you work out how the wiring should be using wiring colours? That's the only way you're going to find out if the amps will work properly again.

If you truly want to get back to original you might want to try a breaker who's got amps or HK speakers for sale and ask if they might have the wiring looms.

i`m gonna reconnect the wiring as you say its colour coded
takes me back to to my youth fitting stereo`s using twist joints and a reel of electrical tape
does that mean that if 1 is duff then the other 3 should work though ?
dont know why they changed it out the sony they replaced it with sounded pony
and they disconnected the h/k sub
if any of the amps are duff ive seem them pretty cheap on ebay
looks like i will have to replace the cd changer as well
it has power but will not load the cd`s and says no pack on the head unit display
hope the cable is not knackered as i say when connected it seems to work
ie accecpts the cartridge
regards mark

hi again to all
you were right dogsbody
removed all the door cards to find the amps bypassed and the wiring butchered..
i cut up some old speaker wire i had and repieced the wiring to the connector for the amps..A LOT OF TWIST JOINTS
TESTED before refitting the door cards and all sounds fine
The only thing that dont work is the cd changer which says NO PACK
thats the only reason i can find why they fitted the aftermarket sony single slot head unit
just got a replacement cd changer on ebay lets hope thats ok
