Hi fellow members, new member here need help asap please, ive just bought a 1997 ranger over p38,although its the 3rd one ive owned it is the first diesel one ive owned,i believe that its fitted with the 2.5 bmw engine is this correct?my main help needed is when i went to start it this evening it just kept cranking over and the battery went dead almost instantly even though it has had a new battery, the chap i bought it off said this is common?as the feul apparently run back to the tank on these models?and that he was going to do a modification of fitting in near the fuel filter an in line non return valve,do you think this is the problem?ive also seen on ebay a kit that helps to start the engine when it is hot/warm anybody know about these?need it sorting asap as going to pick up caravan weekend.
any help be very much appreciated
gav

battery running down could be the rf receiver? starting probs could be the usual warm/hot start prob? yes the ebay hot start fix does help if its that! also have a look before you start the car to see if theres any air in the clear pipe that goes to the injection pump (intank fuel pump?) and also check the condition of the spill return pipes on the injectors..

it only done it earlier put battery charger on it and starts up straight away, what is the rf receiver?no air in system as started fiine sunday when i collected it and drove perfect the 180 miles home,i notice you have yours chipped, would you recommend it?theres a place near me that offer it for £391 38 bhp increase was thinking of having it done.

if you go into search and put rf receiver it will give you the run down on it!
YES i would recommend you getting it chipped esp if you tow a caravan,it will help you with power/economy... this is the 1 i have on mine,i looked at a few before fitting this and well happy with towing our caravan and the mpg i am getting...5 mins to fit, engine warranty etc.. well worth the money in the long run imho..About the Spider diesel tuning device

As Mark said any starting problems change the leak off pipes on the injectors, we call them excess fuel pipes, i work weekends in a 4x4 garage and the number of starting problem we have cured by replacing those pipes and a nice strong battery, the pipes dont have to leak diesel before they let air in, I have chipped my 2.5DSE and its well worth it, it wont win any races but it dont hang about

yes its a good big battery new in jan, will look at pipes, one other thing,i park my range up at night on the kerb mode on suspension, realisticly how long time wise should it take to set itself on suspension?i take it leave in park and just let it tick over?

gonna try in morning been told that the rf receiver could have flatend the battery due to my wireless internet, have locked it with th ekey tonight not fob will leave it until tomorrow and retry it.

hi,glad you got the starting problem solved,my p38 diesel has a non return valve fitted and i do not have any starting problems with it,my p38 was stood for a few months so battery went flat so i connected my starter charger to it,BIG BIG MISTAKE.it started the car but burnt out the logic board in the BECM,had to send it away for repairs and it cost me £348 to have it repaired, will not be doing that again.next time i will just charge the battery in the normal way.:doh:
