my auto gearbox selects a different gear from what i put it in ie, 3rd instead of d no reverse etc this only happens when its warmed up the oil is very clean. if i put it into p it lights up in 2 but is actually in p, if i put it in n it lights up in 3 but is in neutral however if i say i go into d and it lights up in 3 it is in 3. occasionally it will go into 4th gear when pulling away (very slow) and will show gearbox fault. the most annoying thing is not having a reverse when its heated up. often i hear a rapid clicking under the drivers seat (becm) which is when im parked and the gears are going crazy. H E L P M E P L E A S E:(

sounds like XYZ switch is playing up or the wiring between that and the geabox ecu.

XYZ switch tells the ecu what gear you have selected, It is mounted on the side of the gearbox along with the selector cable.

Also you will need to check for bad power/earth connections to BECM and gearbox ecu.
As it has logged a fault (message on dash and default to 4th) T4 will need to go on it and read the fault codes

Really a job for a main dealer especially if you're not up to scratch with electrics

does the xyz switch have two wires attached to it? if its what i think it is then you could be onto something there as i had run over a metal sign a while ago and damaged my handbrake cable and two wires on the side of the grearbox were off, i put them back on but they had been bent slightly.

no it has a muliplug with i think about 5 wires, the thing you're thinking of is the transfer box temp sensor wiring which has 2 wires on spade terminals

how do i test the xyz switch to see if it is working? and where can i get a new 1 should i need it, is it a common fault as i seem to be the only person who has had this sort of problem.

XYZ can only be tested with T4 at a dealer

ecu is the top one at the front, the one underneath is air suspension and the one on top at the back is transfer box
