Hello all
Does anybody know the correct procedure to remove the glass from an external rear view mirror (to allow repair to feedback pot) and to refit the glass? I have studied a "doner" assembly and this has not helped. The Rave CD only mentions how to remove the whole assembly. I have a new glass to fit and this comes with a small piece of plastic which seems to fasten on to the rear of the glass assembly but for what purpose? I need to get this right as the glass is well over £100.00

My God, who charged you £100 for a mirror glass - My local independent dealer charged me £20 from britpart and I thought that was dear enough...

Make sure that as well as the new glass you have a new locating ring before you start.

Removing the mirror glass without damaging the mechanism is very difficult, as there are two very small rods with ball jointed ends within the adjustment mechanism that tend to snap in half in the event of the miror getting a good smack or being removed. These are not available separately but I do know a way of repairing them if you do break one,

Any way - to remove the mirror glass - if you push the end nearest the door into the head as far as it will go and push a flat bladed screw driver in between the mirror head and the glass on the outer edge you can just about push the blade between the glass and the locating ring - twist to force the glass from the ring - the glass, ring, or both will break - if you are unlucky a little rod will also break - Good luck - Land rover did not intend these to be removed ...........

Thankyou for the reply. I now have 3 versions of how to remove and refit the glass!
The reason the glass is so expensive is because it is "electro chromatic" i.e. it dims (not dips) when headlights are seen by the interior mirror. I think further investigation is needed before I attempt this job.
Thankyou
Ray
