I want to wire in a dash cam on a dedicated permanent cigar lighter plug. I have a bank of cigar lighter plugs which I could put in the glove box. I am no spark and taking a connection from the existing cigar lighter plug doesn't look like an option due to the limited access ( unless it pushes out (upwards).
Any suggestions ?

I too have hard wired in an extra bank of sockets and hidden them under the dash with various items plugged into them, I hard wired mine into thr cig lighter it really is only a 10 min job to remove gear surround to get to the back of the cig lighter housing, you can then take your earth and live feed from the housing and run the wires to where ever you wish, also it gives s clean finish with no wires in sight.

Thanks for that : how does the surround come out ? I didn't want to apply too much force in case I broke the whole unit. Is it a push fit ?

Where did you position them under the dash ? Any pics ?

Sorry to be dim : I misunderstood your first reply : I now see it and have identified the section in Rave : thanks for your help.

For the dummies like me the attached link makes for easier removal of the gear lever surround trim and panel.

Glad you found it, really is easy to remove, 4or 5 screws an d its out, all I did was wire a bank of sockets into cig lighter socket, removed dash under steering wheel, 4 screws, zip tied bank under dash plugged in I pod charger, sat nav lead and also phone charger, then ran the various charger leads to where I wanted them, all neat and tidy and as Alan said cig lighter socket is only live with ignition on which is perfect.
Hope this helps
Paul.

Unless you have the facility, as mine has, to record if the camera detects movement within its range when parked up. Not only does it cover the front of the car but also the front of the house.;):)

Thanks Paul : I got your response at the other thread I had opened on the ashtray lid : both together makes sense and I'll certainly have a look at your suggested location. I had reservations about it in the glove box because of being out of sight and an obvious possible fire hazard > your suggestion has a number of attractions.
