P38 EAS Problem

Hi
I have had this problem a while now......my suspension has been inflated manually with my compressor with valves attached.
Today after sorting running problems thanks to other members (Thank You) I tried to sort the EAS I have a lead from RSW solution but struggling getting it to idle (connect) its flashing Red / Green tried different comm's and stopped and re-connected as Youtube states.
Help Please
One other thing how do I do a search on a subject....seems only for a member!

Regarding the search function, just type in the top bar whatever you are looking for, you have to think about keywords.

You only need to use the member bar if you recall a thread from a specific individual.

The box where you enter your search is not obvious-there are three boxes-you need to use the one ABOVE the member box

Check the back of the plug for corrosion.

@Saint.V8 did a Youtube video somewhere. Storey Wilson has as well. Google Storey Wilson and EAS suite or maybe EAS unlock and you should get some hits.

If you have a USB laptop and are using a serial adaptor from the EASunlock lead you MUST load the driver for the USB adaptor BEFORE plugging EASunlock into your computer. Problems come using USB adaptors. A serial port laptop connects every time. Try changing the port settings. Use a different one.

Yes using USB laptop and have tried using different comm's (is this the same as changing port settings)
Regarding (MUST loading driver for USB adaptor) not sure what that means
Have loaded software when I very first used it years ago.

There should be a driver for the USB to serial adaptor. You MUST load that before you plug it into the computer. Or Windows will load a generic driver on plug in that may not work..If you have used that adaptor on your laptop before without problems then the trouble is elsewhere.

When using usb adapter I run a small program called: "PL2303CheckChipVersion.exe " developed by Prolific, on the pc. If I do not get a positive response from this program there are no com towards the serial (usb) port. Hence no reason to connect to the car before the connection is solved. The program you can download from several sites. As usb to serial can be quite unstable, plugin and unplug the adapter can sometimes resolve the problem.

Just one other thing to check is that many USB to serial adapters don't work very well on USB 3.0 ports (normally coloured blue) so make sure it's in a USB 2.0 port on your laptop.
Also, have device manager open when you plug it in and see if it appears in the list. Then go into settings and make sure it's set up to COM1 or COM2.
Quite often software will only work on the first two com ports and quite often the Bluetooth adapter in the laptop has reserved both. (in other words your USB serial adapter could be defaulting to COM8 and the program can not use that port)

Yep it's the serial adaptors that are the problem. On an old Dell that i have with serial port the EASunlock never fails. On an ACER with USB ports i have never got it working. Don't need it now of course Nanocom is king.

Yes, once my old laptops with serial ports became too slow, I found an adapter that worked and I guard it with my life.
It's primarily down to the drivers. The prolific ones seem to be very iffy but the ftdi ones can normally be made to work.

I have tried 3 different USB-Serial adapters with EAS-Unlock. All of them actually worked ok, provided I installed the correct drivers.
Note:These adapters also get used for Cisco, Juniper & Nokia router console ports, so work for most applications.

Anyways . . . to check for correct drivers,

Open Windoze Device Manager, and then plug in the USB-Serial.
Then open the details for the serial adapter.
It should show the manufacturer if the driver is installed correctly.
If details shows "Manufacturer - Unknown", it's most likely the driver is not correct.
Next click on the Details Tab, and select Hardware ID's.
Copy the Value Text, and google it to find the correct driver.

Decent adapters will be either FTDI or Prolific. There are plenty of Chinese devices out there but these often come with old drivers on a mini-CD. It's much better the get the HW ID and find the correct driver.

If anybody needs drivers, I have files for FTDI, Prolific & Chinese CN340
