P38 EAS problem

Hi after some advice i have a P38 DSE on a 98 plate and have had some problems with the EAS, I have replaced all the air bags on the ranger and also re-ferb the pump with new seals and cyclinder have also cheacked block and all lines for leaks. I have fitted an led in the cab to show how often the pump runs and gauges to show how much pressure in the tank. I am finding that the pump is running too often the pressure builds up to about 130-140 psi the suspension goes up fine on all levels, however the veichle keeps adjusting itself causing the pump to run again, i have had it on the laptop and snapon ethos and dont get any faults showing. I have found that the heights on the left and right side of the car differ by about 2" (when i measure from centre of wheel to wheel arch) Any help would be great thanks again Great site :)

you could probably do with recalibarating it to make sure that all the sensor are sending the correct heights. i have to do mine, it fights with it's self to level as i had 2 sensor change without recal. :)
 
If it aint level when parked on flat ground then it needs calibrating. When the vehicle is moving the suspension is meant to keep adjusting itself so the compressor will run from time to time so it depends what you mean by running too often. You could of course have a duff height sensor giving erratic readings which would cause it to keep adjusting.

Hi i have tried to recalibrate it with the free software u can get and it made a slight difference, the car was on a level surface while i did this, do u know what the settings should be as standard ? Also the when on a run i notice the pump will come on for about 3-4 mins then switch off then come back on again after 5-6 secs and so forth for most the journey.
 
if you park it on the level over night a pop the tailgate so the leveling stops, go back in the morning and make sure all your bags are still up. that way you can discount that part of the air susp and it's good.
check the connection to the air drier are good and no leaks around there. other than that you have a dud sensor. :)

Hi i did remove the timer relay and leave it for 2 days and it never dropped at all, i checked all the connections with soapy water and did not find any leaks, If the height sensors were at fault would they not show up on diag machine ? as i get no faults when i run software.
 
as an aside.. how long should the suspension stay 'up' - assuming air springs are all ok when the car is left for a bit. Mine does need new ones as they look tired out, but does seem to drop quite quick when stationery. By quick I mean generally always on the stops next morning. Could be something else I guess.. I haven't tried leaving the tailgate open to see what happens in case its leveling itself down each night..

i know it was a big ask but everyone has been so helpful on here in the past i thought someone would take her:D how the hell can you have 600 acres with land on top of it??? am i missing the joke?:eek:
 
Hi if i use the free eas software should i be able to write new height settings ? i have tried to adjust the height by writing new values but dont seem to be changing the height would this mean faulty height sensors ?

Using the EAS unlock software you should be able to change the height settings within limits, try to go too far and it will not work. First off when you try to use the EAS software do you get a green "GOOD IDLE" on the display? If not it will do nothing. It's unlikely that you have 4 duff sensors, have you used the function with the diagram of a car to read the current settings?

Hi just been out and tried again with software no the values are out by 1-2 which i assume is not bad, i have measured the height and it seems to to spot on now, i am still concerned about the pump run times how often would u say the pump should run on and off ?
