Help.
Whist travelling at approximately 60 mph on the M4 the viscous fan failed quite spectacularly, shattering the cowling completely and pulling top hose off radiator and actually denting the bonnet from the inside! Managed to clear all debris from engine bay. Re-topped up and managed to limp to friend's house. Question: I am still 90 miles from home - can I still drive the vehicle home if I can avoid congestion?

If you or your friend can remove the front grill and run a wire from the air condition fans to the battery so they are running all the time, then that will get you home.:)

No need to do that, just remove AC relays for fans and bridge two of them for high speed, and one fol slow speed.

Sorry for the delay in replying, but after leaving the car in west London and continuing our holiday in another car we decided to borrow a trailer and recover the p38 to Essex. I'm sure your suggestions would have worked, but the thought of a breakdown on the M25 especially on the sections with no hard shoulder filled me with dread.A second hand replacement has been sourced and will be fitted this weekend.
