P38 DSE to series 3 ?

Current owner of a 1995 P38 diesel, haven’t got it very long....188k on it, going well and not too shabby
Seen a series 3 88” pick up that takes my fancy but is the P38 a safer bet ?
Can’t have both
( 3 cars and a motorcycle) already so enough mot and tax to pay lol
The guys looking £3k but it’s negotiable
It’s 1979, started life as a petrol but had a diesel conversion (miles unknown)
I like the usability factor of the RR but have a soft spot for old LR’s as have had a 109 and 90 before
The guy will take p38 against the 88 with cash his way....how much is yet to be confirmed
I looked round it and bulkhead is mint and chassis is mint bar one 2 inch hole

Suppose I’ll know after a test drive which is available should I want it but advice on the pros and cons would be appreciated

One more thing, is it a big job to change it to a hardtop? the rear tub would be wasted and I’d make more use of the back if it was enclosed and locked lol

You haven't actually said how much you are going to use the P38/Series 3, which I think is the key here. The other factor is how you feel about no power steering and ride akin to a space hopper.
Given the choice between the two vehicles I would have the Series 3 if my mileage was modest and I was going to be throwing junk and rubbish in the back regularly. If I was using it to commute 50 miles a day then it would be the P38.
Long term I think the Series 3 will cost less to run, but you are 'roughing' it rather compared to the P38.
To answer the question about the roof, it's a simple job if there are two or you. All being well you should be able to change from a truck cab to a hard top in less than an hour, maybe slightly longer if you need to put a one piece rear door on and set up the catches.

Thanks....it’ll be used now and again just as a leisurely thing when notion takes me and will be a good back up when it snows lol definitely won’t be a commuter vehicle and more of a toy
