Hi Everyone, New to here and hope you can all help me.:)

I have a P38 4.0 HSE 2002 and for a while now the courtesy light does not operate off the front passenger door at all, nor does the puddle light at the bottom. But the light works perfectly with every other door.

Question is, Is there a switch for the light as I can't see one after having a quick look around door,if not, how does it work and do you think it's a quick fix??:confused:

Any Ideas

:welcome: to the nut-house lol!
You could take the door card off and check loose wires/connectors. Pick-up is inside the door handle - if lights are working off the others I'd be leaving it as is........them handles ain't cheap!

Had the same with my drivers door. Its the latch mechanism. Cheap on eBay because everyone wants drivers side. Steve

Thanks for quick replies everyone. Yep checked out the wiring and all seems tight and secure.
If I take the door latch off is there anything to look out for , would I be able to repair the fault or better still, Is it just a sticky switch that can be freed in any way??
Cheers guys :)

Many people on here clean and lube the latch mechanism. I could not be asked when I had the same fault and just bought a new passenger side door latch from Island 4x4. Cost about £135, but it's fixed for good.

LW....

Think I will take Ridesafe's advise......£135 for a latch!!!
suddenly it's no longer a problem ;)

It's not quite so simple either...... as well as interior lights there are micro-switches for locks and alarm in the door latch...... I'd keep status quo, just open driver door or tap interior switch if light really needed!!

Just because the connections look alright dont be fooled! I took my door latch out and stripped it down (Not as bad as it sounds) because it would not work with central locking but it turned out to be the female plug where someone previously had rammed a test probe in and opened up the connector s it was not making contact with the male pin.

Thanks guys, going to investigate the wiring a bit further, mainly for piece of mind, and then I may strip down the lock and see what makes it work, or not in this case!!.
I will let you all know how I get on.
Oh Nearly forgot, does anyone have a wiring diagram to help me investigate and does the outstation have anything to do with the courtesy light set up???

Outstation controls eveything on the door. Inside the door lock there are 2 micro switches, one for door open or closed and one for door locked or unlocked. i think the door open/closed (coutesy light) switch is the single wire plug (i think its a black wire) but dont quote me on this.

Buggr. My pasenger door has started doing this intermittently too and I assumed there was just a little switch somewhere.

What on earth possessed the designers to make it so complicated? What's wrong with a simple (cheap) switch? I just despair sometimes.
