You can still get valves so he will be OK, they are even making amplifiers with valves again claiming the sound quality is better than solid state. Funny how what goes round comes round, they used to claim sound quality was better with SS.:)
 
So, I'm interested in what this repair is specifically fixing? I see it mentions a buzzing sound, but is that from all speakers? I have an intermittent buzzing from the midrange speaker in one of the rear doors, but no other speakers. I've swapped the rear door amps over but the problem persists in the same door. Is this symptomatic of the problem that this fix is for, or do I have something different going on?
 
Mine started off with an intermitant buzzing, with sound every now and then. but ended up with just a constant buzzing and no sound at all with the head unit turned on

From all speakers or just one? I guess what confuses me is that the rear door has two speakers, driven by the same amp, but only one of the speakers buzzes. I assumed it was a fault in the door amp, but have ruled that out.

I've not taken one of these apart, but on another stereo with missing pixels the ribbon cable was stuck to it's contact point with some sort of adhesive. If the Clarion is the same you can try just pressing the ribbon back into place, or alternatively rub a warm soldering iron over the back of the cable where it joins - this warms and re-sticks the cable, but be very careful not to overheat it and melt anything. If you try this and melt it, don't say you weren't warned!!

Well, as I had nothing to do this morning, except respond to being insulted by Wammers , I decided to take the radio out and apart. Photo 1 is the display (before and after) ,photo's 2 and 3 are of the pcb front and rear. I cannot see where to warm so I guess this is a different stereo to the one you have worked on. Sorry about the picture quality, the battery is flat on my other camera. Can anyone help ?

Your LCD display module would appear to be knackered. You maybe able to get one from Clarion service UK. Or for about £90.00 they will refurb your radio and give you a six month warranty.

That is not a typical connection problem, looks more like the LCD panel itself is knackered.
