Hi, i just bought my first P38 a week ago and it has lost all drive.
it has no faults displayed and feels like a slipping clutch on a manual car.
if i rev it hard it makes a buzzing sound and starts to drive a little.
it does the same in all gearbox modes including reverse. anyone got any ideas?

Remove ATF cooler pipes form cooler and put the ends in a big bucket. Run engine and put box into drive with you foot on the brake for a few seconds. Then back into Park and engine off. See if there is any ATF in the bucket. If not then the pump is at fault.

loads of oil in bucket and on me:screaming_bug_eye_f
oil was a bit black so have changed it, but still the same.
if i rev it hard in gear it makes i loud humming noise which seems to be coming from the torque converter housing. could t/c be stuffed as i was going uphill when it stopped?

Hi I have a similar problem, while towing my boat drive gave up. I runs same as alway but no drive in any gear. When I put it in gear I get a slight noise difference but no drive at all. Tried reving it up but no drive. When I put it into park it makes a slight noice as it goes in. While in park I can push the car forward, only the hand brake stops this. I took the torque convertor inspection hatch off and it is spinning. Seems like plenty oil in it. I have sourced another complete gearbox with transfer box attached and plan to change the lot unless someone can help pin point my problem. Jim.

where is that part, this is an Auto I never realised it had any for of clutch. Whould this explain the Park not holding. If the Torque convertor had burned out would Park still work, Jim

My auto transmission knowledge is limited, but yes, they do have clutches. I do believe they have two or three clutches. These are not as you would expect a standard manual car clutch but more like a motorcycle in that they have multi friction plates. If one of these packs has burnt out the oil will be muddy brown rather than a nice cherry red. Home rebuidling is not really an option unless you have the proper tools and the knowledge. A recon unit will be your best option.

If Park doesn't hold, could just be the transfer box chain has gone. cheaper to fix than an auto box, so if you are lucky:D

Could even be an electrical fault has put the transfer box into neutral??? Try repeatedly selecting Hi & Lo range and watch for error messages.

Tried that no faults come up. When I select low ratio it just keeps flashing and beebing and does not select Low ratio. It did select low ratio after drive went as I tried that to get drive. How would I find out if its the transfer gearbox chain. Jim

Can't answer that, but the fact that Park doesn't hold just makes me suspect it's not the gearbox. I have had a few auto's over the years and have never known the park function to fail. The fact that it will not select low ratio also points to the transfer box:confused:

Hopefully after 9 1/2 yrs , of no posts, they might have solved it ;) You would be better searching for a solution or starting a new thread drawing attention to yours. If you haven't already
