My P38 has had a problem with the front passenger door getting harder to open, the handle pulls out but you have to give it a good old pull to open it and its been getting worse over time, just lately the key fobs have been playing up a bit but changing batterys has one working well but on a journey the passenger door lock button has started to lock and unlock, sometimes just once and sometimes 2 or 3 times, any idea if all these issues are connected and advice and what the problem is?

I know the mechanism for the outside wears over time and make things very difficult. Did read about a fix but don't recall where

I think the tailgate button gives random locking/ unlocking problems. Easy job to take it out ,strip clean and reassemble.

That’s the fella he’s got a web site but works away a lot I think but I think there’s a test he has put in the tec section to check your drivers door switch

Try looking up martinuk on here that’s the bloke I can’t remember his web site name but someone will post it up

I’ve look in the conversation box start new and type in martyuk you will see his post on door locks and Brian has put a download up for the test you can do hope this helps

Thanks guys, just been reading Martys test sheet and his web site info sounds like he is a genius on this stuff, will print off the test sheets and have a look next week, I am thick when it comes to the electrics!
So far not sure whether its the drivers door lock unit that makes the passenger lock and unlock on its own?
It seems important to change the RF filter unit as it maybe part of the problem? (I see them on Martys page)
I will disable the super lock motor if I get the chance as it sounds like a horror show if that locks and stops you getting in, is there only one and its in the drivers door?

Try the tailgate button first but usually when the door locks start cycling on their own it is the micro switches in the drivers door lock assembly. The RF filter unit is part of the dreaded battery drain syndrome where your battery goes flat overnight.

Think the tailgate button when its full of damp crap gives spurious earthing problems hence the cycling problem.

Thanks guys, understood I think I got sidetracked by the RF filter my battery is good and does not drain over a couple of weeks. Tailgate button is first on the check list as you say its fairly quick and easy to suss out. As its parked outside all the time maybe the water has got in as we have had a gut full of it recently!

Sprayed the passenger door rubber with silicone spray and that is much better, took the tailgate button out, didnt look to bad but cleaned it all up and sprayed the connector pins with electrical cleaner, short run of 12 miles today and all seemed ok with passenger door button self operating, will see how it goes, Marty is away for now.
