P38 2.5 Power Loss

Bought my 1997 P38 2.5 DSE a couple of months back and all has been great,until now.When i kick down to overtake-not something you do too often in a diesel-the revs hit about 3500-4000 rpm and the power goes.Let the revs drop back to 1000 rpm and it picks up o.k again.Hard smooth acceleration is normally,but not always,o.k,it's much worse when a sudden amount of acceleration is required.I've replaced all three turbo hoses with oem parts and my local Land Rover specialist replaced the crankshaft sensor.Any help on this problem would be much appreciated as this is my first Range Rover and i'm learning as i go. Thanks in advance.

when was the fuel filter last replaced ?

excuse my ignorance with the diesel engines, but if this was 2 happen with an petrol engine i would source a MAF and see if it makes any difference. im not sure if the BMW have MAF's?

That is a good question.I haven't changed it myself.It does look pretty new but changing it must be worth a try.
Do you think the vacuum cell attached to the turbo could be at fault,as the turbo pipes were collapsing when revving engine hard before i replaced them and i understand there should be no suction in the pipework to make this happen if all is working correctly

I had same problem car ran ok up to about 70mph but then when you put your foot down it would not rev. I fitted a new fuel pump as was told that it could be that the pump was not building up enough pressure. Pump replaced same problem. It turned out to be the fuel pump relay. If you start your car you can remove the fuel pump relay and you will notice no difference. The injector pump manages to run the car with out the need for the fuel pump until you ned to accelorate. I switched the yellow relay for the fuel pump with the heated rear screen and hey presto. Try this first as I spent +£100 on pump

Thanks for your advice chaps. Replaced the filter and switched the relays,so far so good.I haven't really given it too much in the way of revs but it seems to be pulling strong and no sign of the power loss i was getting,now just got to see if i can improve on 20.9 to the gallon............anyone?

Lucky you Im only getting 18mpg my 4.6hse is doing 16mpg not sure how people say that they get 35mpg

No nor me.Did get 24 mpg on a trip from Tewkesbury to Sheffield the other week,but some get that round town.I'm looking in to maybe getting mine chipped if i can find some proof the expense will be worth it.Blimey you running a diesel and a petrol Rangie?
