The pedal is not attached to the accumulator. The accumulator is the ball on top of the pump.
The seals and some plastic parts in the boost unit piston may have failed.

There's a warning light to say whether there is low/no brake fluid - hasn't been mentioned by the op.
Just sayin'......
Brake pedals going to the floor must be a pretty unique fault on a P38 I would have thought, if it still has fluid in the reservoir.
Points to catastrophic failure of the modulator if it suddenly occurred or wishful thinking that the vehicle was actually going to mend itself if the fault was left over a period of time to get to this stage.
Just sayin'......

It is not unknown, a plastic part in the booster piston fails. A bloke in Australia i think, was making them from alloy and selling them.

Yes, he was, at silly money too. Claimed it was a common manufacturing fault but strangely very few people seem to have actually witnessed it. Maybe this is one of them!

From what i recall of it, making the part is pretty simple, but you do of course need dimensions. Think it was modified on later units.
OK, have taken the effort to read the op's first entry and he says the handbrake light is permanently lit - which means there's low or no fluid in the thing.
So its gone somewhere and I would pretty much guess that when somewhere is discovered, rectification can commence.

I drive Land Rover products - of course I frequent....
i have found another P38 specialist garage , mercifully just half a mile from my home , I'll take it to them and hopefully it will be sorted very soon, I just want my R.R. Back on the road again ..
