Naa, there were 3 foot of snow everywhere - 20c, and we were on the Hutigrutgen, will send yer some pic's tomorrow.

Indeed...as soon as i drove out of Kristiansand the first time i changed my retirement plans! Need a place to stay give me a pm...and buy the beers in denmark, not the uk!! £10 for 24 bottles!!!

Thought i'd reply since im in Norway right now! Unfortunately missing the landy which had to stay at home =(
First thing to understand is that its really really expensive, however pretty much wherever you go its absolutely stunning scenery. The roads are far from straight and the speed limits seem very slow (maybe because im not in the landy) so you can't quickly get anywhere. You can get speeding tickets 2kph over the limit, and hefty they are too. The temperature varies so much between seasons because in winter the sun is hardly in the sky and in the summer its almost always there. Here in the Vesteralen Islands (about 300km into arctic circle) at this time of year the sun never goes down for 2 months or so. Because its so sparsely populated, you can camp pretty much anywhere assuming you are away from towns.
If you've got anything else you want to know please ask i'll do my best to help

Hi,
I am a new member and I am Irish but I have lived here in Sweden for 5 years two of which were spent in Luleå just below the arctic circle. I would be interested to hear you impressions if the trip is complete. If not maybe I can assist you in some way.
The winter in the north is not just difficult its deadly. The summer is plagued by all sorts of biting insects. Be on the lookout for bears if camping. Also watch out for moose which can be deadly if you crash into one, they are so tall they come straight through the windscreen and being such massive creatures can crush the occupants. Reindeers are Scandinavias sheep. Beautiful yet stupid creatures that will run out in front of a vehicle individually or in a heard and continue to run in front of the car mile after mile.....
However, if you get a chance take a drive on the sea when its frozen its brilliant fun. In Luleå they carve roads out to the islands......One other good aspect is that in the south they use salt on the roads in the winter however, in the north the leave the ice and spread light gravel around the towns. This is beautiful and fun to drive on. Spiked tires are a plus as most swedes have a summer and winter set of tyres however, may not be as necessary on a 4x4v but they really are good.
