Ok starting to annoy me now. Haha famous last words of a p38 owner I bet.

Gems 4.6 on petrol 84k

Overheats when towing sometimes. Mainly when under heavy load. As soon as slow down or crawl along temp drops.

That's first scenario.

Second is I keep getting book symbol on hvac. Solar sensor error. When this happens is when the overheating seems to start. May just be coincidence. This scenario can happen whether towing or not.

Does anything link cooling system and hvac?

Sometimes when the book symbol comes on due to solar sensor is when it starts to overheat at idle.

No coolant is being lost.
All new coolant hoses
New thermostat
New viscous fan clutch (old one was broken)
Coolant is clean

Only things I haven't replace yet are the radiator and water pump.

I'm thinking radiator is knackered?

Any ideas?

Worzel the landy has had 2 new duff viscous fans recently, test the fan when hot to ensure it's locking up. Check that the RAD and aircon condensor are not full of dead flies and other crap.
Solar sensor is not connected to your overheat as far as I can see, could be the sensor or a bad connection.

Thanks for suggestions, I did wonder about testing it again, I guess you just assume it must be working as its new.

Rad is clean, air con condensor is new.

I will check the v fan in the morning and see if its working properly.

Cheers

Well final think I've got it sorted now.

New radiator, water pump and coolant temp sensor fitted.

Been towing today and temp didn't budge. Had nanocom hooked up all day while driving around and stayed around 90. Before it was sitting at around 96. So something has changed. Left idling and didn't move more than few degrees.

Fingers crossed.
