I've just been counting what few pennies I have left after the Xmas excesses.

Thought I'd have a look at the Freelander's fuel costs for the whole of last year - 2012!

I drove 14,618 miles (23388km) last year and used 1726 litres (380 gallons) of diesel at a cost of just over £2430. OMG! :eek:

That works out at 38.46 mpg (7.38l/100km) which is 16.6p/mile (10.4p/km)

I should now go to lie down in a darkened room with soft music playing.

But I'm not ..... :rolleyes:

I'm going to turn up the volume of Chuck Berry's Greatest Hits, pour another large VAT (Vodka & Tonic) and have a party. :beer2:

Life's too short to drive boring super-economical cars. ;)

Yup, pretty good fuel consumption there, Boni.

As for pictures telling stories here's another showing the results of my last long distance trip.

Hope you can read the Sat-Nav - it's difficult to take pics of the touch screen.

It shows how deceptive average journey speeds can be.

Total journey - 7220.5 km 4512.8 miles
Overall Average - 46.4 kph 29 mph
Moving average - 61.9 kph 38.7 mph
Max speed - 159 kph 99.3 mph

This was the result of 8 days driving. :)

But I was stationary - on ferries and in motorway services for a total of 39hrs 5mins. :( As well as overnight in hotels etc.

Confirms my fuel cost of 10.5p/km though. :D

But I still prefer my notebook with details of brim to brim etc. :p

To true that's why I still keep my VFR800 despite not being able to ride long distances due to a knackered shoulder - just makes me happy knowing its there if required :) And I love driving my Freelander but sometimes nick my wife's Fiesta because its cheaper to run and don't take so long to warm up.

A couple of years ago my son was doing a similar yearly mileage in a V6. We worked out the petrol cost - Never did that again!!

Agreed - I'm not wanting to repeat this level of fuel purchasing again either.

I'm not going to stay at home though.

Nor am I going to sell the Freelander.

I really must find a more economical vehicle just for the long journeys

Wonder what gets 70mpg! :rolleyes: and is cheaper to tax?

I can't see me driving across mainland Europe in a Smart. :(:(

Don't blame you ;)
I'm not even going to work out what my wife spends per year on fuel. She does around 18K in her Tiguan which averages 38.7 to the gallon. It's way more than I put in my V6 that's for sure, but then I only do 6K tops .
 
Why not fit an hho system that,ll give your freelander 70 mpg maybe more depending on what size you fit

The ford focus ecotec 1.6 diesels are £20 tax and close to that 70mpg on a run !

I stick with my TD4 @ 30mpg for winter use & piaggio scooter @ 90mpg + & no traffic queues in the summer :eek:
