Over heating on motorway

I wouldn't run with the stat out except in case of need. Maintaining the engine at its operating temperature will help in operation and economy. My 110 had no stat in it when I got it and ran like crap - swapped in a stat and the heater worked a whole lot better and my fuel mileage went up...wonder why?

One question I might ask that I don't believe I've seen here is about the hoses - how soft and squidgy are they? If the flow is a bit down on the radiator and the pump is healthy I wonder if you could be sucking a hose flat and losing flow that way.

Mine does that heats up under load at 65-70mph drop back to 55mph and back to normal . Guy at the garage with 30 years in landy's says it is pretty normal . so i just slow down till it drops to normal .

not suggesting for one minute running without one full time, simply remove and test to eliminate it as a possible, only takes 5 minutes and costs nothing apart from a bit of instant gasket :)

cheers steve
