Hey, has anyone seen one of these in action or even on display?

https://www.outhausoutdoors.com/product/landietent/

Retails for £200 and is much more versatile and cheaper than a roof tent.

I've stumbled across it and think it looks like an excellent option for smaller trips.

I have one very similar to that. It is very light weight and convenient but it only offers you the same comfort levels as a normal tent, and requires smooth ground to pitch on. So it depends what you priority is.

If t'were me, I'd buy a cheap(er) ground tent that'd be more versatile and you can leave it set up while you go off for the groceries. Can't see any advantages to tying the tent to the truck except, possibly, security.
