I fitted a new propshaft coupler and centre bush today and can't seem to get the propshaft coupler to fit properly. Basically 2 of the bolt holes are flush with the flanges but the third one is out, while the bolt goes through it's too short and so the rubber coupler bends a bit when the nut is tighened up....see pic

Although it's only slight I'm guessing this isn't normal and if I drive it will cause vibration and will mean the new coupler perishes very quickly. Other than taking it off and trying again what have I done wrong that means the coupler malforms in this way...is this a common problem when trying to fit these?

Any help would be much appreciated!!1

Nope, it's right and normal.

The donut takes the place of a Universal Joint so that the different angles between the centre-line of the prop and centre-line of the diff are accommodated.

However, it can lead to premature failure.

I had a donut on mine for years, until I fitted lifted springs, modded the shocks and went for more than standard articulation .. I pretty soon changed to a 200 Tdi prop and UJ, which is way cheaper than replacing donuts every month or so ... ;)

Thanks for both responses very helpful! I'm going to be fitted wide angle propshafts at some point in the next month or so I just needed to get the disco on the road and wasn't sure as the angle just seemed funny to me.

Based on this advice I'm definitely doing to fit a flange conversion kit as the whole thing ended up going because of the lift kit the vehicle came with.
