Please help!!!!!!

Yesterday the 90 started making a horrible rattling/knocking when the engine is idling. The noise disappers each time the clutch is depressed, and is not noticeable when driving, only when idling. The 90 has an LT77 gearbox with a reconditioned lt230 transfer box and 149000 miles on the clock.

the noise got noticeably worse each time i stopped at a set of traffic lights. and is even worse today.

What is the noise caused by, and is it anything to worry about????
Ta in advance for any help or advice.

takes me longer than that just find the readers wives pull out section.
need to read that for 15 minutes first.

I had the same horrible rattling noise coming from the LT85 in my Santana. Changed the clutch release bearing and the bearings in the gearbox and now the rattling is gone. It was either the clutch release bearing or the rear layshaft bearing, or both, as these were the only bearings that were damaged.

ta for the help so far
So its the thrust bearing that is knacked and causing all the racket?!?
I know the release bearing for the clutch is in the bell housing between the engine and gearbox, but forgive me for being thick, but where is the thrust bearing, is that there too????

It's the same thing. According to Haynes its a three spanner difficulty which is "difficult, suitable for experienced DIY mechanic" . They also reckon it's esier to remove the engine to do it rather than the gearbox!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I've done plenty of thrust bearings in my time but not on a Landy, taking the engine out to do it seems a bit drastic!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
