original distributor?

Hi all I recently started my first landy its a 1963 s2a and half the engines missing all I can find is that it's meant to be a lucas distributor just need to know what one?

Not sure which model you need but 10 minutes on eBay will probably tell you. Have you considered an electronic distributer? It's not an original fitment obviously but they are much less trouble .

+1 on the electronic distributor. Replacement points and condensers can be poor quality and cause lots of problems.
Originally, this engine would have had a Lucas 25D4 (model 40944A) but the later 45D4 and Ducellier should fit if you're not bothered about originality.

Why, are you not happy with the electronic dizzy. Putting old dizzies back to factory spec doesn't mean that much cos they weren't spot on from new in many cases. In any event, good luck with it and let us know if there is a noticeable difference.

Hi Col,
dunno .. maybe its what it promised ( or what i thought it would do) compared to what it has, it always has felt like a weak link and combined with the lack of power around 1500rpm together with no one has been able to decipher the ignition curves. I would like to have something in my spares that I know will work so getting the original redone seems logical to me.
I also had to have the electronic one serviced after a particular deep wading experience which cost almost as much as getting a new one, moral of the tale is that you can't just dry these out as all the parts are replaced with a PCB and a chip, i might have fared better with an old school one as I could have just swiped the points and driven off instead of having to get recovered ..

I fitted a electronic dizzie a while ago, it does improve the starting but I don't think it makes the landy run any better. I mainly changed cos I got fed of resetting the points. I kept my old Lucas dizzie so if you get yours done and it is worthwhile, I might follow suit. Like you say, it's always a good idea to have a spare, at the moment I'm wishing I had a spare water pump.
