Ooops, Lost me Landy ... :(

Thats crazy! Theres virtualy nothing there! Just cant believe the difference in the water, was barely covering his tyres! Glad its back in virtualy 1 piece!
If you end up keepin it, and you need any interior parts let me know ive got some rear seats front door cards and various other bits of trim, there in beige tho, just giz a shout :)

Yeah, dipstick had a few inches of water .. no sweat, in the morning when it's light I plan to undo all filler/drain plugs .. wheels off, bearings/hubs out, diffs out. Battery off, winch off, seats carpets (whats left) all out and let it dry a bit .. Only thing I'm annoyed at really is the £80 ish of diesel in the tank, but again, I reckon if I drain it out and separate the water it might be ok .. Wishful thinking maybe .. :)

Gonna speak with insurance, tell 'em it's recovered and that the recovery company will be invoicing them .. then ask what they want to do .. which will depend how much of 'my' kit I remove, tow bar, winch mount/steering guard, HD steering bars, 2" springs etc etc ... If they give it Cat D and just apayout to me that's fine .. if they want to take it away it will be without wheels and tyres at least.

In fact, if anyone in Doncaster area has four ****e wheels and tyres I'd be obliged for them cheaply as cheap can be .. :)

Just gonna play it by ear, but with a fair wind it might be running again within a week, but more likely two or three ..

;)

Words to say, but it ain't 'anything goes' .. ;)

Cheers mate .. very happy to be laughing at it all now and getting the **** taken ... ;)

Hi Paul,

Glad to see you made it out and you've got good mates on here to take you "fishing". ;)

Anyway, If you find yourself in Alfreton or indeed, if anyones passing through between here and your gaff I've got a piece of glass to replace the one you've lost sat in my garage that you'd be quite welcome to.

Once you start stripping it out I bet you'll be able to save all the trim bar the seats. I've stripped my 300tdi out fairly recently to restore it and I've been spending time cleaning all the trim with a mild detergent to get the marks out of it and blasting it with a jetwash and it's come up really nicely. Even the carpets will come up nice with a good jetwash and some carpet cleaner.

All the best with it - I'm sure you'll be back on the road in no time!

Cheers,

Jon.

Ooh, I'll take you up on the alpine light .. I used to live in Eastwood and we're coming down in a couple of weeks for a party, so might pick it up then, cheers, many thanks ... I'll be in touch, not sure of the date. ;)

Hardly any carpets left in, certainly none of the sponge underneath, so I'm gonna junk all the carpeting and seats .. good excuse to find bucket seats and proper harnesses .. it really is mostly a plaything now, so I'll maybe just jetwash it clean and if juliet wants to polish it I'll let her, but it hasn't been done by me for the past few years and I ain't gonna start now!

Far rather spend time having it running right than looking clean .. ;)

No worries - just drop me a PM nearer the time and let me know when you'll be passing through.
We're literally 2 mins from M1 J28 so dead easy to find.

Cheers,

Jon.

I've watched the videos, I've read the thread and all I can think is, if the water was that deep, WHAT THE #### WAS YOU THINKING? It is very fortunate you didn't get yourself killed. I'm not surprised pikies tried to have it away though. They probably left to get something bigger and you beat them to it.

[Note: You won't get data off your lappy, water in general is bad for HDDs, dirty water is a death sentence, try profession HDD recovery, but it ain't cheap, couple of grand normally.]

The water didn't look that deep, there's no indication of depth at all or that there's a drop that falls off the sides so close to the road edge, or that when the waters high up that the road actually turns slightly, so following the line of the road actually takes you off the ford! It's a ford on a road .. we'd already been through another ford on a green lane, that looked worse but was way shallower further upstream ..

The lady of the house t'other side came out and we had a long chat .. they've been campaigning for depth gauges and 'proper' signage about the state of the ford for many years, and always expect it when it is flooding ..It was a far worse bed in this ford than the one on the green lane .. but was so innocuous today you wouldn't believe it!

Not worried about the lappy, it was an old one only used for laning .. it had memory map, maps and a couple of pc satnavs on it .. all software is backed up at least three times and I'm already sorting another out .. I'll just break this one and weigh the bits in with all the others I do .. :)

Aye, I've seen fords change over the space of 24 hours, leaves me naturally paranoid of them. Might be why I am coming across as ****tish right now.

The ford near my old house.

The same ford 24 hours later.

What happened when someone got it wrong.
Woman killed after 4x4 swept down river - Telegraph

The bridge her car was pinned under is normally 6ft above the beck. Take it easy around water folks, she is a cruel unforgiving mistress. Foot bridges are a good depth indicator with fords, they are placed above max water line, if water is ever close, find a different path around.
