one shot if diffs?

Just a random thought what if any harm would it do to use one shot grease in the diff?
Its better in the swivels than EP90 so what would be the harm in a diff?

it was used to reduce servicing ,clues in its name oneshot

cv is different to crown wheel and pinion teeth

No and No.

Hence why I'm changing to running ep90 in my swivels rather than one ****e.

I have always been told by old school mechanics about putting molyslip in with your gearbox/diff oil. Never done it though

I used ep140

plus moly grease as I believe the old BL used it in there cv joints.
and yes, it does leak/get damp on the swivels in very hot weather,
but other than that keeps all the moving parts nicely lubed.

I did have a slight knocking on one cv joint (on lock) some time ago, but a year or more down the line its still quiet after my mixture being squirted in the front swivel hubs..

worked for me..

not been more than 120 miles in one trip, but never noticed anything untowards happening.
would have though ep90 leaking all over the place would generate more heat simply through oil loss.
its no good putting in correct service lubricants in most of our shagged old landies to get the feel good factor,
only to drive away from an over night parking leaving nearly new ep oil smelling on the roadway.
at least my method seems to be fill and forget till next years walkaround the filler points underneath.

till I`m "proven" wrong...

Can't imagine it'll be that bad as long as you keep on top of it maintenance wise.

Look at series swivels for example. They run in ep90. Can't see it's a problem as long as the swivel seal and chrome swivel ball and other oil seals are in good condition.

Plus stripping down/rebuilding axles/diffs is childs play so i don't mind a bit of maintenance

yes it does in the swivels but they dont put it in diff where heat is more of an issue amongst other reasons

It seems to me that Land Rover introduced the "one shot" stuff to extend the service intervals, but that does not mean it is a better lubricant. I prefer EP90, checked frequently. If the leakage is so bad as to need "one shot", and EP90 leaks out at a significant rate then water must be leaking in at a similar rate. I don't think one snot and water is any better at lubrication than oil and water.
If you use EP90 and check and change it frequently you will prevent water building up in the swivel. The risk with the one shot is that the swivel is left until something breaks for want of proper lubrication.
