Ha! Not me I hope!

Anyway, hi from me, hope it's ok just dropping in like this without introducing myself on the other forum. First time poster here, looking for advice...

I want to ditch my Escort van and small family car in favour of one vehicle, and I have been thinking LR for some time, but never got very far - mainly due to my ignorance. Perhaps you can help?

I need a LR that can accomodate a four person family AND have a rear boot area that can take a large object, for work purposes. The object is about three feet wide by four feet long.

The LR would ideally have PAS, but I don't know if they have that?

Finally, but not least, it would be great if the rear seats could come out or otherwise make the rear very flexible in it's use.

I don't like the look of the Freeranger/loader (?) nor the Range Rover.

So, has anyone any advice on the model I should be looking at, and can someone say what the difference is between a 90 and a 100?

Oh, just one other thing, is it common to alter the motor to run on bio-diesel?

I would suggest a 110.

The difference between the 90 and 110 is that the 110 is long wheel base and the 90 is short wheel base. i.e a 110 could fit either 7 people with no rear space, or 5 people with a large rear space for work bits etc.

You would need to check out the rear spaces for your large work object, however i would have thought the 110 would suffice.

I have seen a 110 on ebay (only browsing mind) and notice it's got PAS, so that's that question answered.

Am I right in thinking that a few people have converted their LR engines to biodiesel? I know landys aren't econcomical to run, but there's no sense me ignoring the possibility of improving that aspect. Doesn't mean I'm govered by financial considerations!

Finally, that's a 'station wagon' on ebay. Does this just mean that it's LWB, or something else like it's got running boards?

Ditto the 110, dont know about your budget, but you must try and get a 200tdi or 300tdi (Defender) or a Td thats had either of these motors fitted. Buy a couple of the LR mags and do some homework, there seems to be a lot of articles lately about bio-diesel.
Be very carefull with ebay deals, l/rovers are very "knickable" and the relative ease of swapping identities well known.
Choose well and remember if you buy the right one, it will last you years.

You can run the 200tdi on vegetable oil (SVO). The PAS on mine makes it very easy to drive and they are surprisingly manoeuvreable - designed to turn round in fields I suppose...
 
Not sure how wide the rear door is - you may not get your 'large object' in.
A 90 (90" wheelbase) mat actually work - you can get fold down seats in the back. But you prob do need a 110. A stationwagon is one with 5 doors and windows (like and estate car), a hard-top has 3 doors and no windows in rear (like a van). Bear in mind that the inside of the rear also has teh spaces for the whellarches - full length (from rear od seats to back door, and about 8" wide and a foot high from memory) - this means that the floor is about the same width as the door.
 
For your large object, you sound like you could do with a 110 Hi-capacity pick up with a crew cab, We got one at work and it has odles of space for both people and eq. It seats Six adults at a squash or 4 (two comfortable and two window lickin'). I know network rail/first engineering use these and auction them of every so often. Could be £££££ though.. How about building your own ? :eek: ali
