I am looking for some trust worthy advice or to be pointed in the right direction for buying my first Land Rover. Ideally I'm after a SWB Defender 90 station wagon up to about 10 years old. I've recently been in touch with a man selling an exceptionally cheap Defender which of course turned out to be a scam, luckily no money was lost but it's put the fear in me, is there anyone honest out there to help me get my first LAND ROVER :)

any replies will be much appreciated,

Hi Mark
sorry your a bit far oop North for me to help out. if you are not mechanically minded i would say ask a friend who is to have a look with you. otherwise read through some of the threads on here there is lots of good tips and so far i have found everyone to be very helpful if you have any questions.
just remember firstly check the chassie to see if it is solid all over then at least you have a good base to build on..
good luck (i am hoping to return to owning a Landie early next year)

Auto trader, gumtree, eBay etc, just make sure you check it out mechanically and that it has the proper paperwork and relevant identification. Lots of these get stolen and you don't want to buy a dodgy one.

If you are going to see one ask someone on here to help out, you never know.

Cheers and welcome.

Before you make any trips..always ask for the;
Reg Number,
Vin Number,
Mot Testing Station Number,
The reference/document number of the V5

Then look at the directgove.com place and look up MOT history
it will confirm mileage, reoccurring MOT issues, and if the seller is
happy to give the above information to you he/she is more likely
to be a bit more trust worthy..

obviously not a guarantee but a little help I hope..
