Been toying with the idea of running some kind of compressor on-board and noticed that RR sport and TD5 etc suspension compressors are pretty cheap on ebay and look like they run off 12v. similarly air-con compressors .. but I want to be able to re-inflate punctured tyres from complete flat to full pressure, and maybe in future to power locking diffs ... would they be any good for this application?

Has anyone done this and what have you used? Pics would be good!

Must be cheap, don't want (can't afford) an ARB/whoever, made-for-the-job compressor and bits, so must be able to be fettled at home rather than a simply bought in unit.

I'd say the aircon unit is the way to go with this, its a project i've been planning for years and never seeming to get the time!

I have a york compressor as well as a standard Discovery one, and I have a tank that would fit nicely tucked under the chassis rails out the way, just need to get round to it.

I did find a nice write up on it once, I have it somewhere!!

If its just for tyres wont a normal plug in compressor do your needs for now and then look at a tank when you get lockers? Seems a bit pointlesss running all that gear just to pump tyres up, the weight addition will be quite hefty, it would involve extra wiring e.t.c. that can cause issues and just seems a pain in the arse for something that you can do with a £10 pump...

That's a far too feckin' sensible option for a Landie fettler ... ;)

But the two replies so far have given me the idea that a reasonably cheap 'off the shelf' compressor, coupled to a small/medium fire extinguisher bottle might be a reasonable compromise.

Thanks.

All I will say is a 25L home compressor and tank doesnt last long, not even just for tyres, a small 5L tank wont do anything really, not on the scale of pumping up 31"+ tyres anyway...
