can anyone advise??
i am looking to buy an old 4x4 budget £1000-£2000, to tow my horse trailer, i will only be using it once a week doing around 20 miles. I have been looking at series/defenders/discoveries/range rovers, they are all over 10 years old due to my budget, does anyone know which is the most reliable and easiest/cheapest to get parts if something does go wrong?? or do you have any suggestions on a better alternative??
many thanks

Any of the above they will all do the job well, i would go for a tdi disco or a 110 if you have a big 'orse box i would steer clear of 88" series and 90s as they don't realy have the length, but your real contenders are a 109", a 110, a disco1 or a rangie classic.

For 1-2k I reckon a Mk1 Discovery would be your best bet. They don't carry the premium that Defenders do & the culture shock of driving them would be less. If you can find one without rot in the steel floors/panels you will get more bang fer yer b......er, yer pound.

Thanks for your advice,
what are the main things that go wrong with the discoveries at that age? is it best to look for one which has already had these things replaced or is that a bad sign for things to come??? sorry i'm not very good with buying cars!

How bigs the horse box?.......for 2k you will get a good, sorted Series III, no fancy electronics to mess with/go wrong and doesn't cost much to fix when it does.

If yu give us some idea of where yu are based (alter ya CP) then yu mite find one of the more knowledgeable folks mite offer to give it the once-over.

You might also find a Series owner nearby willing to let you have a drive of thiers if you do consider a Series. It is a culture shock. You'll either love it or hate it!

i went with the Series III option for towing but its ended up that i need 2 of them, one to drive while the other is sick.....

the girlfriend prefers using the SIII's to my ma's disco though, says it pulls better and is easier to manoover.... when they actually go that is!!
