why cant you just get the right rims? Or are you running later alloys? dont discount steel rims and if you are running steel rims just unwind the lock stops until the tyres are a couple mm clear of the radius arms on full lock no need for spacers.
 
i heard rumours of people putting wire around the threads on the inside of the spacer, u ever heard of that? could it work??

Do you mean lockwiring the bolts?

Race bikes/cars use this technique to stop sump plugs etc. coming loose whilst on track... the wire is fitted through a hole drilled in the head though, not wrapped round the thread!
