Remove sump an checkup boltis tight,
Hehe! It is working for me
With regards to the engine, we think we have found the problem... The seller started the engine and the oil was coming from the oil pump area. Without closer inspection this has made me think that it is the dreaded oil pump bolt that left the factory without locktite!
As the engine sounded completely normal until we stopped is their likely to be any damage caused that will:
Fail the engine completely;
Or reduce its lifespan considerably?
And how can we check the damage caused?
IIRC, when the oil pump bolt lets go, you loose the drive to the oil pump - thus no oil pressure - thus no oil will be circulating - thus engine totalled in short order ....
You NEED to know what has failed..... and where the oil is getting out of the engine!
oil pumps is in the sump how is that finding its way out and how could he see the pumpHehe! It is working for me

there is only the vac pump feed from an oil gallery, id be interested to know exact cause before i had it backThanks, I will get on to this straight away! It could potentially be one of the hoses connected to the oil pump. That is my only other thought...
and if bolt is tight?.......
i cant see it been the bolt and if it was youd want another engine 1000-1500 pounds for a could used motorIf the bolt isn't the problem I can assure you I will be adding loctite as soon as I can. Thanks
@Flagshiplandy ,
How did you get on buddy?
Return for full refund. It's broke'd. You will never trust it after this.
Well a happy ending indeed and full-marks to him for fixing it at no cost to you.Just seen this post so here goes:
After breaking down we left the 90 overnight in a housing estate until the seller could collect it the next morning. When he arrived to collect it he found the oil was leaking from a split hose so he took it back to his workshop to fix.
Having had it fixed it was collected by us on the following Friday but we only got 15 miles until it went wrong again: Lack of oil meant that the engine seized and this time real damage had been caused to the engine. Again we left it for him to collect. As you can imagine we were quite peeved off at this point. It is what you should expect from a LR but not this soon into ownership!?
To our amazement, he offered to replace the engine with another td5 that had around 20,000 fewer miles. Honestly, I cant understand it as this is a heck of work on his part when legally it wasn't required. But nonetheless, we were happy!
And like all fairytales, there is a happy ending... The 90 is now happily on our drive and waiting for some adventures, hopefully with fewer dramas!
Thanks everyone for the help!
