hey all
a few months ago I replaced my saggy turbo/'cooler hoses for silicone versions from Paddocks.
i recently returned from an overland trip & there was a dirty oily residue on the OUTSIDE of the hoses..I have since done an oil change & now the residue still appears after wiping off but is now cleaner engine oil.
the inside of the hoses has a slight film of oil as they have always done.
I am confused as it cannot be an oil leak from the engine as it appears nowhere else & on all 3 hoses, turbo elbow, intercooler in & intercooler to manifold & I dont use any oil.
I didnt have this happen with the old OE hoses
Could the hoses be porous?
any ideas?
thanks

Would hope there should be no oil on the inside of the hoses, otherwise your turbo'd be knackered...

Try running the engine and feeling for blowing around the area where the oil appears, could be a gasket failed somewhere...

You'll always get a certain amount of oil via the breather...that's why it goes to the inlet side of the turbo and not to atmosphere...but I wouldn't have thought it should be on the outside of the hoses

Ive found residue in every hose/intercooler Ive ever looked in...TD5 turbo's are either good or they're dead, there's no in between from my experience.
The oil appears on all 3 hoses though-near side of engine bay on the hoses to the intercooler & the off side of the engine bay on the intercooler to manifold hose. And I've replaced & tightened all the Jubilee clips...gasket failure wouldnt leave a deposit on the outside of all 3 hoses-hence my confusion... !

Hi.
If I was you I would send those hoses back. Sounds like it can only be them if the turbo is ok.

it dose sound as if the hoses are porous.i have seen new hoses fail before but not for years.and yes you do get a certain amount of oil residue inside all turbo hoses just as was mentioned above

Hi there,

I had the same with an old 90 with silicone hoses. It looked like they were damp all the time. i used to wipe them down and next time I looked it was the same again. I never got to the bottom of why it happened.
