I've noticed recently when braking hard (well as hard as you can in a 88) that the oil pressure light comes on for about a second afterwards. Does that indicate a tired pump or just normal oil slop?

Oil is topped up to just below high mark on dip-stick

Cheers

Doesn't seem right as the pickup shouldnt be exposed (unless you've recently fitted carbon disks).
If the oil pump was so weak that feeble braking forces stalled the oil then I think it would show other symptoms.
Could it be a dicky pressure switch?

theres no baffles in sump so oil can shoot forward ,considering sump is only half full when oil is at high level ,pump pick up is toward the rear

Mine used to do that but the engine was very worn. When it started happening on "normal" braking I knew it was time for a top up!

Check your dipstick, not the oil level but if the bell stop on the stick is loose allowing stick to slide deeper into sump giving a false reading and VERY low amount of oil in the sump.

Cheers all for help. Wil,l double check everything but when I took off the sump recently I' draned everything and putting in the "book amount" of oil brought it to just below full after turning the eninge over to fill the filter so dip stick should be fairly accurate.

Next time I order some parts I'll get a new pressure switch but it sounds like it is not a cause for undue alarm...
