hi,i was out driving around a farm last night in my defender 300tdi and noticed that my oil light came on when she was ticking over and as soon as i pressed the throttle it went out,all oil levels are ok,was out today and it was ok,help! Jim

thanks guys,it has happend twice, both times i have been traveling about fields at low revs trying to thin out some of my over population of rabbits, Jim

ive got exact same problem with my retro fitted 200tdi, i changed the switch to no avail, il try changin oil filter as well see if that helps.

if not looks like i mite have to put up with havin the light on on tickover!

The actual PRESSURE of the oil hardly matters at all.
What REALLY matters is that the oil is circulating all the time, especially through the main bearings of the crankshaft, then the big ends, and the camshaft shells.

As long as the wee light is OUT you think there is pressure. Of course it could be that the little bulb has blown, or the wire fell off the pressure -switch!

If you are diddling about a field popping bunnies, and the wee light comes on, don't panic. Blip the throttle, and if the light goes out you know the oil is circulating.

A slightly heavier grade of oil might help, and in that model I suggest tractor universal 15W 30 as ideal. My TD5 runs on that, now at 48,000 miles.

yea i had the same problem, but an oil change and a new filter sorted that right out ......................... i hope :)

Yes, a clean filter helps ensure best circulation, but doesn't to a damned thing for the pressure.
You just need that oil circulating.
