Hi any one got any idea why my oil light is coming on when ticking over and some comes on when i dip the clutch as i change gear. The oil level is OK on the dip stick ... Any help Please :(

I had that on a 200TDi, a certain well known Landrover Speclist told me that it was the rear bearing for them cam which had spun and was blocking the feed to the oil pressure switch and would be a engine out job to fix as cam comes out back of engine and the replacement bearing would have to be line bored!:(
He also said but it could be just a faulty oil pressure switch but did not think so as he had seen this lot.
Everyone else I spoke to about this said faulty switch known to do it. Well at less than a tenner worth a try.
That’s what mine was, just a faulty switch!!:D

FIT AN OIL PRESSURE GAUGE FIRST.

Unless you do that you are working in the dark.

However, the symptoms you describe are typical of a number of faults such as .

1. engine generally goosed - pressure drops too far when running slowly because all bearing clearances are too big.

2. oil pump rotors knackered.

3. oil pressure relief valve stuck a bit open.

4. and so on

But first fit that gauge. The best ones to use for this job are the ones that are NOT electrical, but work directly from a little pipe.

i did my na someone had put the wrong gear from in the oil pump spigot was smaller than the center of the gear clearly wrong I had run it for 2 years then the oil pressure dropped so much and it got warm while trailling in slough I run the mains but it got of home stopping whenever it started to get hot it got of home and to and from work for a month while i saved up and got a Tdi will post a vid later of the fooked pump i brought the engine and a gearbox second hand from a big company the gearbox had a tooth missing from reverse and the engine seemed fitted with a wrong oil pump gear Jai

Wow .... that's an awesome post ... no caps, no commas, no periods, no paragraphs or sentences, just one smooth report of what happens when your engine has the wrong oil pump bits

I have sent away for a translation but I think we all got the idea!

Thanks for all your advice . Where do I connect the pressure gauge and what sort of reading should I get ? Cheers Martin

i would use paragraphs but i cant be bothered it takes too long on my phone and i passed english so ive done my bit (notice no capitals either)
