the mecahanic washes the oil off in order to locate leak but then the leak won't reappear for a few days.it takes time for it to occur.

So to sum up.
1)the intercooler does have a residue of oil in it but not that much!!!!
2)It could be the oil cooler or the pipes
3)if i get a new intercooler won't the in timeburn oil out of the exhaust?

The oil engine oil cooler is the full width of the water radiator. You cant see the engine oil cooler unless you remove the intercooler. It is positioned underneath it in front of the water rad. The smaller radiator on the left is your gearbox oil cooler. Your leak is in the same place that mine leaked from. I had oil all over the battery box and on the chassis rail running back to the manifold. That was why the garage was convinced it came from the turbo. Thankfully I didnt believe them.

it is engine oil that i'm having to top up.So the radiator behind the fog light on the left is for gearbox cooling?

So what do you reckon is wrong with mine.Is it going to be costly?

The Intercooler is expensive, however the Oil cooler rad isnt too bad. Look on Ebay for a full set £120 - £150. But make sure you get the new oil pipes as well, then you dont have to try to get them off your old rad. And they will not go on your new one. I F**ked a new rad up trying.
The leak you have sounds like a small crack in the welding for the mounting bracket. It will only get worse. Worst case it blows all your oil out on the motorway. Then its a new engine.

Hi,

I just had the same issues. this was after a dickhead changed an oil pipe and managed to chew up a thread on the oil cooler.

New cooler, new seals, ac ungas/regas and labour £326 all in.

PS The oil does go everywhere, gotta get busy with the GUNK now.........
