Oil Leak and Ticking noise

1) We have a slow oil leak from our tdi 300 which only appears to happen after we have run the engine. It's dipping onto the cross bars below the engine but it's not clear where it's coming from? Where are the obvious places to check? I will post some photos when I get home but can't from work.

2) It has developed a ticking noise which doesn't seem to affect power but wasn't there before. I will try to post a video. Any ideas?

Thanks my wife is going to try and post some pictures but the oil leak appears to be coming from the front of the engine. My initial idea was the sump plate. Sorry I don't know if that is the correct name but the plan/plate at the bottom of the engine where the dirt from the engine oil sits in. It certainly was oil but maybe no more so than you would expect. I had thought about taking that off clean and putting back on again. I guess it has a gasket? However, there were lots of bolt and the cross axel (not sure if that is the name) was in the way!

However, the leak appears to be coming from a little front of that but I could see anywhere obvious.

You can hear the clicking very faintly. It was more pronounced before

Here is the underside of the Land rover from where abouts the oil is going from

It's just occured to me that I might of been stupid. I've mixed synthetic and mineral oil in the engine. The oil was changed with 10w40 synthetic but I topped it up with 15w40 minerial is that bad?
 
From the pic the sump looks like its leaking, is there oil further up the block ? if so check the inlet manifold gasket.
 
as above check inlet manifold gasket, the sump is sealed with a silicon compound so when you remove the sump just scrape off the old stuff and put new on,as reguards removing the sump it is quite easy. you need to lift the car high enough to work underneath support the car on axle stands (under the chassis) so the axle hangs down enough to be able to give you clearance to pull the sump off, you need a 10ml hexagon socket on a long extention and away you go. just a though, where are you based, because if we know where you are someone may be near enough to give you a hand
