my petrol 88 has always piddled a bit of oil, and went through a stage a few weeks ago when the low pressure light would come on for a second when braking. Now the low pressure light is a constant flicker on and the leak seems worse,it did get a bit low at one point.Does anyone know if the light could be shorting on something or if my engine could be shagged? It seems to run and start fine and doesn't get that hot or make any funny noises....yet!!

I'd find the leak too and sort it if its enough that you need to top up regularly. Park over a plywood sheet or something and then use a tape measure vertically upwards to trace the leak...

My oil pressure light comes on under hard-ish breaking down hill if not slightly overfilled and is probably not a cause for major panic but if it stays on for more than a few seconds you should probably stop and investigate.

If your leak is coming from the oil filter, or housing then it might just need the filter cover reseating or a new filter housing gasket.

Mine did this when I first bought it, just needed an oil change. I fitted a spin on oil filter adapter from Turner engineering after breaking the original one, this is much easier to live with if you do find its the filter housing.

The spin on adapter really does make life a lot easier when doing oil changes, I think if you trawl through the suppliers a better price than Turners is available. I bought 5 filters for mine when Craddocks had an offer on for £10 the five
